What is the lateral process for new officers

New officers are hired and sent where we need officers the most, which is usually somewhere in South Florida. Unless, you know someone and can get a position where you already live or where you want to live.

You are on probation for a year after you are hired and after that year, you can put in for a transfer to another district. However, that district has to have an opening.

If a postion comes open in DEP, then the agency accepts applications for lateral transfers first(keeping in mind that there is not anyone that knows someone that wants that position in that area). There are some exceptions if there is some kind of hardship, otherwise you have to stay in your spot until you are off of probation.
