I got a PERC card, what do I do with it ?

12-07-2007, 01:23 PM
Read the instructions that came with it decide on your own and don't let others tell you who to vote for

12-08-2007, 01:39 AM
I know I can make the decsion myself, but I haven't been here that long. I have ten people telling me twenty different things! Who do I trust to tell me the TRUTH? Why should I vote PBA or why should I vote FOP? I there really any difference? :?:

12-08-2007, 03:14 PM
They are both the same ....don't vote because your boss tells you to and don't vote because your friends tell you.. do a little homework. the two do the exact same thing.... there is more local control over the FOP for good or bad..the PBA is good as they have been in Lake Worth before and know the problems abd are ready to fight for your rights but you should choose what you want.

12-14-2007, 02:49 AM
Remember to send your signed PERC card in before the deadline.

When voting, don't forget the transgressions of the FOP president and Joe P.

PBA will give us a local office, a new Board and a new vision (that is not self-centered).

And FOP board: – I do not suffer fools lightly!

12-14-2007, 03:49 AM
Those of us across the water have not received our PERC letters yet. What is going to happen to our votes if they are not returned on time. This needs to be addressed because it is at no fault of our own.

12-16-2007, 04:06 AM
I see alot questions about which union is better PBA or FOP remember it's not the union, we have to start sticking together. I know that everyone isn't going to agree on everything but we have to stop the back stabbing and stop those that run to the chief in order to get brownie points.

When someone or something is done wrong we have to stand up agaisnt the wrong and if the chief and D/C doesn't like it oh well remember this is our union not theirs.

Happy Holiday's to all

I was originally going to try to stay out of this debate and let things play out as they may, however, some people just can't leave well enough alone.
Both the FOP and PBA are good unions, there really is nothing wrong with either one. The only problem I have is that every one was happy with the PBA, until something happened, and that most did not like the PBA State President at that time. This, and then some people were defended in arbitrations that the Chief, certain LT's and some SGT's did not like. Then all of a sudden there was this big push to go to another union. Out of the other candidates, FOP and IUPA, FOP was the much better choice. So we went to the FOP.
Now, a couple of contracts later, and several successfull arbitrations later, we are in the same position. The FOP rep. did his job, even when an acting president and VP took him out to dinner, and stated, We don't want you to defend this guy, nobody likes him. His response was, He's a member in good standing, and deserves to be represented. The Pres. and VP never said what kind of police officer this person was, or that he was an honest person, who loves the job and gave it everything he had every day, only that he was unpopular at the time with the admin. This seems to have started this whole change unions thing once again.
I realize that some mistakes have been made by the current FOP president, and he has made some decisions which are unpopular, and has gained him hatred from some, however I think he meant well and was not trying to do anything for personal gain as certain people would have you think.
What I would ask from everyone is that you make your own decision on this matter, no one knows how you voted, so it can't effect your status in the department. I will say this though, any person at any time can do something to get themselves in hot water with this administration. If it comes down to it, since if I remember correctly, the PBA board decides who gets representation and who does not. In this past this was made up mostly of Supervisors, I would rather have the FOP who is going to represent everyone fairly, and you can go directly to him with any problems you have without having to essentially go to a supervisor in the department first, and decide from there what you are going to do.
Since I am quoting the person who likes to make some kind of threatening statement on here, which is just plain stupid, I'm sure this is going to bring some kind of response, just remember this, the same people who led the charge to change unions the last time, and who convinced everyone how bad the PBA was, are now the same people who are leading the charge in changing back to the PBA because of how bad the FOP has supposedly been. Just remember guys/girls, I don't think the FOP has lost an arbitration yet, but I'm not privy to all of them so I could be wrong. I would think that this means they do a damn good job, despite what some people would have you think. If you can't see what is going on, and we cannot join together as a Union, be it FOP or PBA, then this department is truly doomed.

As soon as the any union forgets who they are working for it is time to kick them to the curb. FOP forgot about the body and only looked after a few. Don’t go away mad, just go away. FOP used to be great! It’s a shame what a few rotten eggs can do.
New officers need to get involved in this new union. Look out for the good of the body, not just yourselves. Certain people have proven they can not be trusted.
Hello PBA. Goodbye Mark and Joe.
:P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

it's amazing that the cry babies now want a new union becuase they didn't get thier way, just like in the past certin LT's sat with Ernie and Gary and cried about a certin PBA rep and about who the PBA defended becuase that person wasn't like by the admin. , and now it's that same thing peolple trying to earn brownie points with the admin. because they can't control the FOP.

I know for a fact that Kaz and Ernie aren't going to put up with you cry babies this time.

Hey I wounder if certin Lt's will attand every meeting on duty and try to control what members want to say.

See you at the first meeting P , I'll bring you a crying towell.

“Patrol”- talk about a cry baby. Take a look in the mirror. It seems to me you have had the luxury of finding all that is wrong with your world - “P”. To bad you don’t have the balls to confront him man-to-man.
News flash to lack of balls man, he and all your other problems are not going anywhere soon. You have walked around for years crying about him, this, that, and the other, but have not done a thing about it. You sir, are the baby.
Merry Christmas to all the rest of the department. What’s that under the tree? Is that the PBA, and 11 hr shifts? Just what WE wanted.

Thank you “guessinggame”. I always new I was a good cop, but a star, you go to far. I am truly flattered. Recognition from my fellow officers is very important to me. Just think me a “Star”; thank you. There are a lot of little people that I would like to thank, but I will do that another day.
Guessinggame, can you imagine going through life and letting one or two people control you? Poor sad little “Patrol”, what a sad little man he must be. I wish I had “Pete’s” control of people. To make them dance at his command; what power he must have.
Dance for me “Patrol”; dance for me little insignificant man. Dance like you never danced before.
Could I be the new “puppet master” and just pull the strings; not yet I’m just happy being a star.

I was thinking more like a five pointed star..like the ones on those sharp looking green and white cars.....but I kind of liked your self centered rant..very cute.

Does anyone know if the PBA and City agreed to accept the contract as-is yet. I have'nt heard anything about it yet. If they haven't what is the hold up. Doesn't that leave us kind of up in the air as far as our contract goes, and is it possible for the city to try and change it.

I do know that until the city agree's to sign it and allow the PBA to take over the FOP contract there is no contract , which mean's we have no contract as we speak.
This mean's that the city does not have honor anything in the contract.

So we have no contract

01-16-2008, 06:18 AM
If there is no contract then we know whio to blame the the brass who are trying to keep us from going SO

01-16-2008, 06:24 AM
We have a contract the FOP contract THe PBA can re negotiate if the city or the PBA want to. Randy said they met with the City Manager and they are waiting for the City to just accept the same FOP contract.

sorry there is no contract

01-16-2008, 09:08 AM
so at this time we have a contract , but it isn't worth the paper it's printed on until the city agrree's to sign it allowing the PBA to take over. This mean's the city can do what they want they can fire you and you have no recourse, no grievance procedure , no arbatrion no nothing.

They didn't have to pay us for OT, callout's ,court or anything else.

Hopefully the city will be honest and continue to do the right thing.

01-16-2008, 03:19 PM
Hold your horses. It's going to be a wild ride!!! :D

01-16-2008, 07:17 PM
I'm a little worried since I would think that adopting the old contract would be a pretty simple procedure, merely signing off on the old one, I don't know what the hold up would be, unless the city is waiting to see what happens with the tax reform at the end of this month. Just a thought from a concerned officer. I know the PBA is not bad, but I just think emotions ran this whole process and right now was not a very good time. Anyway, If anyone hears for sure, speak up please.

01-16-2008, 09:17 PM
The Sky is falling. The Sky is falling.

Quick, point fingers at anyone we can!

01-16-2008, 11:17 PM
My question was not meant to point fingers at anyone, just a simple question of concern. Can you answer it, or do we just wait and see what happens.

01-17-2008, 03:36 AM
Is there an issue with the contract? I too would like to know. Why would the contract not be valid? Does the fact that we changed bargaining unions now mean we have to renegotiate the contract?

01-17-2008, 07:24 PM
The PBA should negotiate they merger with the SO I thought that was one reason we went to them. They are the same union as the So so they should negotiate the take over. Can anyone from the PBA tell us some answers

01-17-2008, 08:35 PM
Dude...we're not going SO...DEAL WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!

Dude...we're not going SO...DEAL WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!

You may want to contact your Mayor and ask him. You may be surprised and have to change your statement.

01-17-2008, 09:57 PM
If he said something to you please tell.

01-17-2008, 10:28 PM
I once heard the following....

There is a large number of Ford CV's at PBSO's motorpool that are for LWPD's merger with PBSO.

D/C's retiring October 2007 due to the merger. Oh, I mean January 2008. Then again, maybe June or maybe January 2009.

LWPD is going to merge with PBSO October 2007.

LWPD is going to merge with PBSO January 2008.

What is next? The Sheriff is sharing office space with the Chief? The Eagle helicopter lands in the back lot and their pilots come in our break room for 40?
The Mayor has an app out with PBSO?

01-17-2008, 11:18 PM
I think that we just have to wait and see at this point. The whole issue seems to be dead, but the pension stuff isn't back yet as far as I know. I will be pleasantly surprised if it does happen though.

..and all rejoiced, even the company boys that pretended they didn't want the merger to happen.

01-19-2008, 03:04 AM
Reading Lake Worth posts are always funny. A merger with these guys would be the worst thing we could do Our Comish Mary got it right " Let it burn" Lake Worth does not need a a merger they need a take over and house cleaning

01-19-2008, 09:33 AM
You SO guy's couldn't keep up with us on your best day!

01-19-2008, 09:36 AM
our SWAT Team will show you guy's off , SO doesn't have anything on LW

01-19-2008, 07:29 PM
Are you kidding me? This ain't worth engaging over. Try focusing your energy on saving your backwards department. Is this true on regular days (non SWAT call out) your LT dresses up in full SWAT gear to meetings, briefings, and even home on his days off? What a clown.. Did he get through SWAT school?

01-19-2008, 07:37 PM
our SWAT Team will show you guy's off , SO doesn't have anything on LW

Yea, you can't determine a crime in your own jurisdiction. I wouldn't want your SWAT team trying to do anything.

Just out of curiosity where was Lake Worthless at SWAT roundup? Oh, I know you didn't have the money to come, or was it you couldn't handle it. PBSO scored 16 out of roughly 70 competitors. The year before we scored 8. So please, stop with your BS, Lake Worth SWAT couldn't compete with Wackenhut!

01-19-2008, 07:56 PM
LW SWAT...Don't even go there!!! I never knew they allowed high schoolers in SWAT at your PD.

01-19-2008, 08:16 PM
You guys start selling Girl Scout cookies so we can play at the SWAT Round-Up International come 11/30-12/05/08 in Orlando this year. The money from the sold cookies should be able to get your team up there. Love to see ya and compete with you BOYS.

Hey don't blame LWPD SWAT..they don't allow anyone over five feet tall to join.. they couldn't read the street signs..up too high.

01-20-2008, 03:29 AM
Everybody needs to grow up. LWPD has some great cops as does PBSO. You SWAT guys need to put your cackles down.

Thank You, at least I know there is someone else who thinks that the last bit of banter was stupid. Again Thank You
