Charlotte officers name spots they’re looking for speeders, light runners

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office will be looking for speeders in Gulf Cove and Charlotte Harbor and red-light runners in the same towns this week. So here’s a warning of where they will be camping out.

Speeding enforcement officers will be camped out at on the entire length of Gillot Boulevard in the Gulf Cove area and along the entire length of Bayshore Road in Charlotte Harbor.

In 2006 along Gillot there were 12 crashes involving 22 vehicles, injuring 6, causing $61,535 in damages, the sheriff’s office reports. Along Bayshore in 2006, there were 15 crashes involving 28 vehicles, injuring 11, causing $64,425 in damages, it reports.

Officers will be looking for red-light runners along U.S. 41 and Harborview Road in Charlotte Harbor and at State Road 776 and County Road 771 in Gulf Cove, it said.

In 2006 along Harborview, there were 19 crashes involving 36 vehicles, injuring 8, killing one, and causing $141,200 in damages. In 2006 at 776 and 771, there were 24 crashes involving 42 vehicles, injuring 11, killing one, and causing $80,425 in damages, it reports.
