Is it true that Miami-Dade County is paying a hefty fine to the State because of the color of your uniform and that you are considered a police force instead of a county sheriff's office with an appointed director instead of an elected sheriff?

This is money that can be used for extra police officers (deputy sheriffs), and other police services and even educational programs for our kids.

When are the citizens of Miami-Dade County going to figure out where their hard earned tax dollars are going?

They use to pay a fine to wear brown instead of the traditional green/white of a sheriff's department, but that was lifted a long, long time ago. But hey their cars are still green and white!!!!!

The Public Safety Department, Metro-Dade Police and now Miami-Dade Police has never paid a fine for going brown. That color scheme was instituted by Sheriff Tom Kelly; thus the "Brown Gown" acquired the moniker "Kelly's Green"!
