View Full Version : Gier Doing a Good Job
I know he is only the interim chief but he has worked harder to bring about positive changes in the last 2 weeks than the last admin did in 2 years.
I hope he gets a fair evaluation at being the next chief.
Jerry is a good guy , but I have to say you can't judge his potential future value as chief based on the last few weeks. The newest agent in this agency could plainly see the lunancy that permeated some of the decisions made by the previous colonel and chief. From where I set, Jerry has spent the majority of his time "righting the wrongs." That has been important and is certainly good for morale, but anyone could have done it.
I agree but at least he has been here long enough to figure out what makes sense, i.e. the jeans rule.

I agree. I am so glad we can wear blue jeans and T-shirts everyday. Its more comfortable.
I enjoy working for him and Mark in the Orlando office and would like to see him get a shot at Chief.
From what I can tell they both are willing to let the agents work without trying to get in the way.
Met him for the first time the other day at Pat Thomas. Great guy and has my vote. I also met the new Director and the new NW major. No doubt, no doubt, political appointments.

All appointments are political.

And dont disagree provided the person who is selected for the job at least meets the screening criteria for the job he is selected for.

Well I just received word that the new major in Tally Town...who happens to be the bud of the DS...is going to be promoted to chief.
We are praying you guys get Richard V. He is a "swell" guy, you all really, really, I mean really deserve him.

Looks like "DOT" didn't get an Agent interview with ABT

Question: Did you all say the new major soon to be chief was from medicaid or was on medicaid?
Thats a good joke........seriously..........I'm laughing my a** off!!!
Geier for CHIEF...Geier for CHIEF...Geier for CHIEF. We want no one else..we want no one else...we want no one else! Dont stop meeting our demands...we want Geier for CHIEF!

keeping my fingers crossed!!!!!!!!!!
Just what this agency needs another political appointment that does not know any thing about the agency. Did nothing in Orlando, barely showing up during the day and collected more money then he should have. He was just another friend of the old director, that did not know what he was doing and was given a job. He is only going to do what he is told by the new director. He is rubber stamping what ever she wants if he desires to keep his job until his probation is up. But one political hack is as good as the next.

I dont disagree...but what a wonderful chief it would be! Dont show up and dont do nothing. Makes our life great. And best of all that is what the administration wants in management. Thank you SEC and DS. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. And we think we like the newest puppet too! But not sure yet. If she starts dictating like she used too we will need a quick replacement! Maybe replaced with the newest major friend.
Got a call this morning and the lastest word coming from the Tampa world is the new north side major did not even meet the minimum qualification to be interviewed for major cause he was never higher than a sergeant in his entire career. Is this true?! Can anyone confirm?!

Straight from BSO...its true. 32 years of service and never promoted higher than a sgt. Source indicated this was largely due to quote "his inability to make decisions" end quote. Well folks, the Sergeant will be our next chief if history repeats!
This lastest revelation peaked interest so I did a little record checking. The former SGT is president of LEIU, a support foundation for intell, and he has quickly updated his web-BIO to "Major of ABT." I will take a guess, as PREZ he dropped "Phillip-Morris" as a sponsor and contributor just as quick?!

Well if BSO can call their sgts "Directors," I guess as agents we can be referred to as "Deputy Directors."
We appreciate Major Geier and his direction. At least he came up through the ranks without skipping several levels like the newest addition did. At least he has been a manager before. GEIER for CHIEF!

Geier is a great manager and will continue to be regardless of his rank!!

I was told straight from Tallahassee that you had to be at least a Captain to be considered for the Major slot and that is why I did not put in. I find this news more than interesting and will be doing a public records request to get to the bottom of this cause if you dont go by the criteria why have one. Surprised once again.
Please do a public records request and post the results. Publicizing the results is the only way we have of keeping these people in check....

Interesting I also called about the North Major position before I put in for the job and was told I had to be a captain or above in order to be interviewed. In addition to Staaaaabbbb being given the job outside of the screening criteria he did not even meet the min. qualifications. I have also found out that the LEI in the inspector generals office (brennham) was also interviewed, even though he has not been a captain or above. Same ol crab, just difrrent people. It is amazing that this new administrtation is going around the state talking about all the wrongs this past administartion did, but they are doing the same stuff........
Also, dont we find it odd that the internal people with many years of experience were not even interviewed>>>>>

Ditto. Telling us what we want to hear but doing the opposite. Look at what they brought back to us...one of the worst. She left the first time because of attitude, got mad cause Myers beat her out. But she is suppose to be for the agency?????? Right! Then talking about the former hiring practices look at their selections, from agent to major?!
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news folks.
Gier will not be the next chief. These positions are given to people who can do political/economic favors in the future for the appointer or have done these favors in the past.
Gier has not done anything for the new regime besides work hard and try to earn the spot. That will not be enough in this political beast we call ABT.
Dave Myers was the last person appointed who actually worked his way up from Agent. We all (at least the 50% that was here back then) saw what happened to him. No matter how hard you work if you can not provide personal fiduciary benefits you will not be retained as chief or director.
ask deputy secretary how staaab got the job
Let me guess, I'm sure it has something to do with this principle from above...
"These positions are given to people who can do political/economic favors in the future for the appointer or have done these favors in the past."
If you actually know the situation, do tell...

I understand everyones frustration, and believe me Im not saying I am a fan of the North Major, but the truth of the matter who ever is giving you the info from BSO is half true. Yes KS had the rank of sergeant (civil service) but he was appointed as commander of the Metropolitan Organized Crime Unit. He obtained the appointed rank of Commander and supervised numeorus specialize units and both state and federal task forces. I worked for him in that task force that was run by the DS first (thats how they know each other) and then KS, KS was a really good supervisor and took care of the guys. Just some info.

I say give the man a chance. Just more proof of how these people are here. put in for something, don't get it, then get mad and start bashing that person. they need to get over themselves.

Call him Commander, Commando, Director, Deputy Director, Vice Prez, Prez bottom line he was still a SERGEANT. I know first hand! Regardless, i am not bashing KS and I do not believe anyone is. But facts are facts and his friendship got him the job no if ands or buts about it. I also know for a fact other externals were more qualified and should have got the position if it was based on QUALIFICATIONS. Asked yourself why would somebody work 30+ years at a LARGE agence 0and not be promoted higher than a SERGEANT...if they were all that then some?!

I should have guessed the connection! Thanks for the info, now we know the connection!
This would not be the first time someone at ABT got something because they were friends with somebody else...the southern region is full of people like that...

It really does make one thing about a long career and never makign it above a sergeant. It wasnt like it was a little ole agency that only have a few positions to promote up. Isnt BSO one of the largest agencies in the ****yr. Makes you, wonder, wonder, wonder, wonder...........
Oh well, I guess K Staaaaaaaaab must have done some good deeds for his ole pal Dragoooooooooo.

Could not resist. He was a sergeant to the day he retired and he was not known for "making decisions."
Pick'em dumb. That is the way we want it!

Lets see...you work for him, he was a good supervisor and took care of the guys..then why are you not a "fan?"
I think it is because they never really worked for him and dont know who he is as a supervisor...I think the poster is trying to stir up things on good people.
I think it is because they never really worked for him and dont know who he is as a supervisor...I think the poster is trying to stir up things on good people.
I dont believe the posters are trying to stir up things on "good people" they are just posting reality. As I see it the "issue" aint "good people" its how they are being chose and coming up in here as a Major from SGT and how it was done. Grant it I have not met the man but BSO says he was a SGT and retired a SGT after 30+ years and one must ask after being at a large and I mean one of the largest sheriff offices why he was just a SGT after 30+ years! One poster did say promotions escaped the SGT because of his "inability to make decisions" and maybe that was enough for BSO. But at the end of the day I really dont care cause I dont have to look at it or work for it and compared to what they brought back...which many of us do know...so what!
Only know KS from AG office. He was a nice person, decent guy, very smart. So for whatever reason he got the job that's the type of person you'll have to deal with. Too bad you got some of Charlies leftovers. They ran the AG into the ground!

If anyone thinks it will be anyone but Gier you are crazy.
Look at the job he has done in the past 3 weeks.
I would be willing to bet money Pam Pace puts out this announcement by next Friday.

Does anyone know if the new SGT went up for Chief?! Just curious...
yes he did interview for the chief's position....
How about that and the ad said Captain or above TO APPLY...well i guess 3 weeks captain or above did qualify Sgt Staaaab. Well I guess if you need no qualifications to be the SEC he could be the chief so good luck to him!
sounds like a compromise between Dranko and Hill
well now if Geier can do something about the twins in Tallahassee, you know, the twins no one has any respect for and everyone wants to see gone or at least stripped of power. They make everyone around them miserable. wonder how they feel knowing no one wants them around? they probably get off on it!

Cut out the cancer and we will heal as an agency! Leave it in to spread and we will die. PERIOD!
Chemo and radiation won't work. You need to actually amputate!

you know you are a sick POS cancer is not something to play with or to go around critizing individuals about that you don't like. It affects many peoples lives. Chemo, Radiation and amputation does not always work in all cases, SMART A**, PEOPLE ACTUALLY DIE FROM THIS DISEASE. HAVE SOME RESPECT FOR OTHERS NEXT TIME YOU WANT TO POST A SMART A** REMARK. You do not know people's personal lives outside of this place and what they are dealing with away from here. YOU ARE AN IDIOT!!!!!! You don't like someone fine, bash them some other way.

I don't think either one of them could give a rats a-- what others think. They get paid regardless if ABT employees like them or not.
of course they don't care and they get paid more than anyone else at the rank of Captain.
they gave themselves 4 merit raises for all the great work they have done in the last 18 months.

I can't believe you would say something like that!!! I used to live in a trailer and I am offended that you would mock trailer people like that!!! Unbelievable. Some people can't afford houses and need to live in trailers. I used to live in one many years ago and it didn't even have hot water.
How could ABT hire someone as uncaring and insensitive as you. Calling someone trailer trash. The nerve of some people!!!

It's amazing but every post on here eventually evolves into a Agent So-and-so is a no good lazy POS.
If you don't believe me, read the Dr. Who thread. Some trekie starts out on a show just to get some positive threads going and that lasts about 15 posts.
Some of you guys are too much. I know we are all negative *******s but start your own thread rather about it rather than make every thread on this board about the same thing.

Word from you know where says the new SGT came in at $10,000.00 more than the other majors how about that and I cant even get a 3%. C'mon share the wealth...
Let's not deal in maybe's. Pull the Sgt Majors salary via a public records request and then report the results. There are too many rumors flying around. At least the pay can be determined.
Also, what's this I hear about agents making more than captains.
There are very few agents making more than captains. There were two in Pensacola making 65,000.00 +. A 25+ year agent should be in that range.
There are very few agents making more than captains. There were two in Pensacola making 65,000.00 +. A 25+ year agent should be in that range.
And that is all them 2 were doing for the last 10 + years...cashing a big fat check!

I agree that 25 year vets should be making that much except it is not the same across the board. There should be step raises for life expectancy at ABT but that isn't how it works. You could be here 100 years and make the same as an entry level agent unless you get some of those secret raises.
Also, these secret raises are handed out to agents that seem to do the least. They must be getting the raises for being a great husband or dad because they aren't gettting them for being great agents.
Anyone that tries to defend the "secret no criteria raise system" must be one of the few that are actually getting them.
We need to develop some kind of step plan and some kind of special merit raise system that is made public to all the agents.
The secret crap that goes on in this agency really lowers morale.
Next, check out any large police dept. Look at their brass. They all worked there and rose up to the top. That almost never happens here. Meyers was the last one I can think of and you saw how long he lasted. Don't ever expect to rise above Captain here. PR may be the last person to have risen up the ranks. Now it's all political appointees.
I am here as long as it is fun but I know I have no future at ABT because that would be unrealistic. I have never heard cops site pay as the reason they got into this profession but at the same time we all have mouths to feed.

It all comes down to this - We want more but we can't escape the truth. This is the image some have created for many. Fix this preception first.

Guest 57,
You have no idea of the stress we are under. This is a high pressure job with an incredible amount of responsibility. We like to vent - it keeps us from doing something crazy like taking a job with some other state agency. Until you have worn the "BADGE" it would be best if you were not critical of those you don't understand. To help you get the big picture, I will walk you through a typical day.
Wake up early (8:30 or so) and start the trip to the office.
Stop and get breakfast to go, since you have a full day - no time to waste.
Stop and get a newspaper.
Stop and pay the phone and power bill.
Stop and return a faucet to Lowe's.
Stop and pick up better faucet at Home Depot.
Complain to yourself about your state car, lack of Blackberry and paltry clothing allowance.
Complain to yourself about that pesky agent in your office that wants your help with an investigation.
Avoid the Captain.
Sneak in and create the impression you have been there a couple hours.
Avoid the LT.
Check email (state and personal) read the paper, eat your breakfast at your desk. Be sure to explain how you are too busy to meet the rest of the agents at Cracker Barrel.
Unzip your portfolio and check your complaints. Decide which one you can fit in to the remainder of the day.
Set that aside while you venture out to take care of some "personal issues."
Avoid the LT.
Lunch.
Troll high school parking lots for smokers.
Realize the day is almost over - knock out some "busy" work.
Call the LT and announce you may be late tomorrow in order to offset the extra hours from today.
Back to the office or head home.
Rinse and repeat.

Set that aside while you venture out to take care of some "personal issues."

but where is he doing it. Here or North Miami Beach. The am paper says he is on the short list for the cheif there....... WOW, how loyal is he to us now????? He has done nothing but apply to other agencies since he started here...... Lets hope he gets the Miami job. We need someone loyal to us and our new Director. Does she forget he also put in for her job???????? what a loser!
No one is expecting JG to stay. Promoting him accomplished one thing - got rid of a major. Stay tuned.
I agree. This is like a chess game and promoting him has allowed ABT to go back to 3 majors once Darth Vadar (Mato) retires.

That's "Lord Vader" to you...Damn rookies....

Do you blame the guy. Any sane person would be looking to get out of ABT any chance they can. This place is like no other, and not in a good way.
Can you blame him? Run Chief, run!!!
The article from the Herald should point out that JG put in for that job approximately the same time he came to ABT, the job's been posted for months and those types of jobs take up to a year to fill-JG's not looking for a job since he's been chief.

Thanks JG.
If JG isn't looking he should soon!!
If JG isn't looking he should soon!!
WHY?! :D
past history says he will only last until upper managment is through with him, maybe 6 months.
Who among us isn’t looking for something better? Truth is, we all are. We all need to do what is best for us and our family.
There is a 27% turnover every year among agents so at least 33% is actively looking elsewhere and we have job security. What if you knew that your job would be cut within 2 years. No matter how great this job is you would be looking also.
When should Geir start looking? When they call him up to the main office and put two letters in front of him, one being his resignation and the other being his termination. Or should he start after he gets back to his office and is given 30 minutes to box up his shit and be escorted out of the office.
I think he should be looking right now. I agree with everyone that this job provides upper level management the guaranty of unemployement within 2 years. Of course he should be looking. Don't question his loyalty. He isn't married to the job.
