During my twenty-eight year tenure as sheriff I knew a number of former trooper elected sheriff's and I cannot remember a single instance of a successful one. I believe that this may stem from their training as a trooper, their commanders insist that they not train and interact with other agencies, such as Sheriffs' Offices and Municipal Police Departments, they communicate to them that they are superior and that makes them very autocratic and less inclined to function on a basis of always proceeding on what is best for the people that they serve.
