Over the last few weeks many of you have become aware of the Broward political scene with a new acting sheriff and the dozen or so individuals that have applied to Governor Crist for the interim position of sheriff in Broward County pending the 2008 election. Although Governor Crist has not yet chosen a particular individual for the position of Interim Sheriff your support is sought in advising the Governor that Al Lamberti should be elevated to Interim Sheriff pending the 2008 election. Said support is requested in the form of a phone call or e-mail directly to the Governors office requesting that Acting Sheriff Al Lamberti be appointed Interim Sheriff of Broward County. (See below for details.)

Although Broward County maintains the largest accredited law enforcement agency in the country, we are the only county in the state of Florida that did not have (under former Sheriff Ken Jenne) a certified law enforcement officer at the helm. For over a decade, the sheriff of Broward County was an attorney with no actual law enforcement experience. Although many feel that a politician at the top is great, many of us – including myself – feel that law enforcement should be ruled by a real cop. Out of the dozen or so applicants that applied for the position of Interim Sheriff in Broward County and of the nine or so that actually interviewed, my choice for the position would be Acting Sheriff Al Lamberti. It is with this that I request your assistance and support.
