View Full Version : Where's the Media?

It's painfully obvious that concerns of the rank and file fall on deaf ears when it comes to our current Administration. It is also obvious that the current forums for addressing those concerns are flawed. In my opinion, due to the common pratice of sugar coating the issues as they flow up the chain. Everyone wanting to present a fat and happy appearance to thier superior. Do we actually think our bosses discuss these issues with City Hall.

When are we going to wake up and realize the only way any changes are going to be made is by making these issues public. Anyone who has been at LPD more then two days knows that our Administration works hard to keep their dirty laundry private. Any changes I have been witness to are the result of the details becoming public information. This forces the Administration and/or City Hall to address the problem and not just discard it into the black hole on the third floor.

As you know the media loves the chance to stick it to someone given the oppurtunity. Im of the opinion the public should know about the inept decision making or lack of decision making that happens daily within their law enforcement agency.

It is time we come together as a group and push the PBA to make these issues public. It is very apparent the Administration is going to back the City no matter what the issue. So what are we waiting for? Take the gloves off ..... the time for diplomacy has past.

I pray for the day when I pick up the paper or turn on the television and find a report detailing the nonsense we face everyday.

Your "media" is in the "Typical LPD 10-98 service" posts!

The media is afraid to get involved because they are in the staff's and city commission back pockets. They only feed the media what they want the media to know. If the media could be trusted more with its informants from within I am quite sure more information would get out. But can we trust these reporters? We have arrested them and they do not think too highly of us. We do our jobs as we know how to, but do they do theirs reporting fairly? NO! They report only what causes controversy. Maybe if we got to the TRIBUNE reporters and get their trust, more would get printed.

Oldtimer hit the nail on the head. Just like we have an administration, not to imply they actually are but that is their title, so does the Ledger. They are called the editors and if anyone thinks that they are not in bed with our Admin. or other city leaders maybe you should seek employment which does not involve recognizing clues. Take the SWOT survey article in the Ledger that was sugarcoated. The Admin. was slammed in that survey but the article did not reflect it. We need to identify media sources which are not cronies with Jack Gillan and the staff. Steer clear of the Ledger and Chanel 8, they have already exhibited that they can be bought off by the staff spoon feeding them the stories that they want coverage on and keeping hush on those that they don't. One example of this is how K.O. was encouraged to resign and it would be handled quietly. By that evening it was all over Chanel 8 news and in the next mornings Ledger.

If any of you trust Jack Gillan, or tell him anything, you are a fool. The Ledger gets by with what it does, taking cheap shots at us and writing stories that make us look inept, because Jack Gillan allows it. He is not your friend and he does not care about you or LPD.

Only the ones that they want to be known. They didn't alert them after a recent promotee's incident of insubordiation but they sure rolled out the red carpet and got a big front page write up for the promotion ceremony. By the way what's the status of her lawsuit? Thought so.

Jack Gillan was recently asked why LPD was not properly represented in the media. He said he was not going to hunt down stories for the Ledger. I thought that was his job. But there is a standing order to provide him with all closed IA cases. It is true that he turns them over to the Ledger immediately. If LPD looks like a bunch of morons to the public, it is a direct result of Gillan's handiwork. Well him...and the one he works for.

Iowa Deputy Collapses at Competition in Lakeland
By Eva Kis

LAKELAND | A deputy taking part in a national K-9 competition collapsed during a field exercise this morning.
Deputy Terry Couch with the Iowa Department of Corrections collapsed about 10 a.m.
Couch and his Belgian malinois K-9, Dargo, had just finished the event when a Polk County deputy preparing to compete saw Couch fall into a ditch.
He was revived at the scene and taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
PCSO spokeswoman Carrie Rodgers said Couch is doing fine.

The LPD K-9 Team has put in alot of hard hours and some of their own time and money to host this year's K9 Trials. The above article is another example of poor relations between LPD and the Ledger. LPD is completely left out of the article. PCSO is shown as the contact agency. Anyone who thinks this is inadvertent, or anything other than another cheap shot at LPD is as bad off as the Staff. This is a direct reult of Gillen not doing his job, and Boatner allowing it. The K-9 Unit, and many more in the agency worked very hard to host the trials and they did a great job.

Grady strikes again !!!! Be careful guys !!! Jack is not helping us out at all. Does he work for Grady ??

Jack doesn't work for anyone...he doesn't work. His laziness is equal to his lack of respect for lpd officers. Maybe he could get a job with the ledger as a buffett reporter.
