When is road patrol going to get high powered rifles?
This is an officer and public safety issue that needs to be dealt with immediately. Criminals are becoming more violent and better armed. 2007, which isn't even over yet marks a 30-year high for the number of officers shot in the line of duty (nationwide).
How can we be expected to go up against criminals who jump out of vehicles with assault rifles? We need to fight fire with fire.
Davie has always been very progressive in terms of training and equipment. It's time to step up to the plate and issue assault rifles to road patrol. As criminals adapt and evolve, so must we! Our safety and our residents' safety depends on it.
--Case in point: North Hollywood Bank Robbery (02-28-97). LAPD has since equipped and trained its officers. That was 10 years ago. Why haven't we?
