Law enforcement governance: Some commissioners asked whether the county should continue with an elected sheriff or opt, through charter amendment, for an appointed chief officer directly answerable to the commission. That should be explored. So should the idea of consolidating law enforcement services under a single agency, rather than maintaining separate county and city departments.

It was tried in the 80s, the BOCC then realized the cost and had a revote to go back to the elected sheriff. With the BS in the tax debate, lack of qualified recruit applications and many officers/deputies going into retirement it looks like a good deal. With the lack of support from Sarasota and north county we here in south county will see the rectal side of going metro. South county will get the oldest cruisers, less officers assigned to the area and definately no South County Jail. Think about it, do you really want to reapply for the job you have now for a spineless boss answering to 5 commissioners who put him into office and can take him out just as easily?? If you want to see how it is, ask a firefighter from Sarasota County or SPD about their communications section!
Metro is not for Sarasota.
