View Full Version : Adding lights to take home cars

Are you able to add lights to your take home car? If so I was wondering if they could provide a copy of their policy or procedure on adding lights to a department vehicle. Our union is pushing to allow our Deputies to put lights in our cars so we are looking to mirror other agencies policies. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you and stay safe.

NO - we are NOT allowed to add anything extra to our vehicles without prior approval from El Jeffe, this includes lights. Several midnight Officers have requested to add extra lights to the rear dashboard for safety, etc, and they were told NO ! The PD response to this was that they wereplanning on adding the lights eventually, so we could wait. Nice, it is great that they care so much about our safety at night that they would deny extral ighting for our vehicles.. Good luck./.

Some people will never be happy. Try working for a place that has run down piece of junk cars that you don't even get to take home. Be glad you have a job. Who cares about how many lights you do or do not have.

Drunks are mezmorized by flashing lights. They see police cars on the side of the road as some sort of magical garage door that they need to drive into at 55+mph. Our cars are plenty safe. Especially the new light bars.

You don't want more lights for safety. You want them so that after you make a traffic stop you can look at them and be all impressed with how cool you think your car looks. The only person it impresses is yourself or some idiot like you that finds something cool about flashing lights.

Here's a good idea for the future of our department....stab yourself multiple times in your eyes. Then get lost!

Hey Not A rook - your name could never be Not a **** - because - well you can read between the lines here.... You obviously have not been on a traffic stop in the middle of the night, and had you r trunk open for any reason (this would mean you are working or helping another cop doing work) - you can't see the lights at all.... not a good scenario.. the lights are for safety - as yes they do look nice.....

Don't the new cars all have lights on the deck, which eliminates the trunk open problem??
