Today the officers and the sergeants met with the city for our 7th contract talk. To say the least it was disappointing. We originally proposed 8% GWI with 2.5% step. The city responded with 0% GWI with 2.5% step with no clothing allowance.

In the last meeting we proposed a 4 % GWI with the 2.5% step with the clothing allowance. They responded with the same proposal as last time and that was 0% GWI with 2.5% step in addition they put in a clothing allowance for plain clothes detectives but not for other positions that were permitted this allowance currently.

For the sergeants they did not offer a counter to their pay proposal. They said that they outright rejected the proposal including clothing allowance. The reason that was given was that the sergeants make more money than officers and should not be afforded clothing allowance.

We asked for direction on where to go due to the fact that the city did not respond to the pay article. We were given no direction and when we asked the city if this was their best and final we were told that it was not.

The city is against any changes we have requested. We asked for increased vacation accrual rates with payout for overage. We asked to go back to 96 hours of sick time at the start of the contract year. We asked for increased comp time with the option to put holidays in the bank. All of these were denied. The city continued to tell us that the city is losing money and cannot afford any of the changes we requested. Per the city you will forfeit any hours over 200. They did not want to move on this item. Funeral leave was talked about and is still outstanding.

These are just the highlights of what was talked about. Please contact any rep for further explanation or questions. We anticipate on planning several meetings for all members to voice there concerns. No follow up meeting was set with the city. More information will be provided as we receive it.

For shame on this city and their disrespect for their employees......and shame on us as employees for tolerating and believing their bs for so long. This city will have a rude awakening when the people that are currently between the 5 to 10 year range hit their 10 and bail.....good luck to all the newbies, you will be PPPD legacy!

You guys really expect to get anywhere when the FOP attorney is a part time officer?? How freakin' stupid can you possibly be?? Seriously??

I have been around long enough to remember that the PBA never did any better.

We live in a non binding arbitration state. That equals weak unions that can do little. No matter how you spin it, that is a fact.

However, I am guessing you knew that too!

"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives." Seek out your reps, get educated, have an informed opinion, and articulate a good case. Please take an active part in the negotiations.
