View Full Version : CONTRACT UPDATE

07-20-2007, 09:38 PM
rumor has it that the city has been stalling all this time just so they could tell the PBA, not no but he** no you wont be getting the 25 and out.
Time to see if the PBA will flex or hide.

07-20-2007, 09:39 PM
I THINK ITS TIME WE UNITE AND MARCH ON CITY HALL OR BETTER YET AT DOUG THOMAS' HOUSE.
ORLANDO MARCHED AT THEIR MAYORS HOUSE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN GOT A RAISE.
TIME TO SEE WHO THE REAL TEAM PLAYERS ARE.

07-28-2007, 11:22 AM
I agree let me get my walking shoes and do it.... What do you think the turnout would be. I suspect most people would rather B**** than take a stand. I still can't believe there are some officers who aren't part of the union. That means we pay dues yet they get all the benefits we do.... What's wrong with this picture.

07-28-2007, 11:40 PM
WELL WE NEED TO FIND OUT WHO ISNT MEMBERS AND START TREATING THEM AS SUCH.
IF AN OFFICER ISNT A MEMBER ARE THEY REALLY THERE FOR YOU?
WOULD YOU TRUST THAT PERSON WHEN THE HEAT IS TURNED UP?
I AGREE WITH THE MARCHING ON CITY HALL OR THE CITY MANAGERS HOUSE.
IF ANY REPS (CHECO, NICK, DOTY,SISSON, LINK) READ THIS PLEASE POST OR LET US KNOW WHEN AND WHERE TO MEET.
HAS ANYONE HEARD THAT THE CITY TOLD THE UNION THAT THEY WILL NEVER GO FOR A 25 AND OUT?
ASK AROUND.

The PBA continues to beg the City, like a small child asking for candy. When the City says they aren't ready and our reps are escorted out, I wonder if they can hear the laughing behind them. We shouldn't pretend to be a pitbull when we have demonstrated that we are nothing more than a scared toothless dog. Simply hearing "Stand Strong" over and over is getting old.

07-29-2007, 09:26 AM
the real pba's....all they are interested in is the contract. there is more than that.........help officers out.....we have officer's being shown the door for on the job injuries. you guy's do great on the site with the talk...how about walking the walk? don't just stand bye talking $hit when bother members are losing their job's? action's brother's it's is time to rally round the flag. what are they doing with polk. where's johnny d. has any rep addressed briefing about what they are doing and most important
what we can do for these two brother officer's as well as pba member's? it could be you next ask townsand. you want to show unity/power? slow down no contract no work. answer your call's and no more. write no ticket's, fic's or any self initiated activity. handle your call's correctly if it takes and hour then so be it. they hold one call and act like the city is under siege. let them hold 21 call's and see what happens. instead of feasting somewhere for two hours let bosses handle call's....slow down!!!

07-30-2007, 12:58 AM
HARD TRUTH IS RIGHT..
PATROL COULD GRIND THE P.D. TO A HALT AND THE CITIZENS WOULD COMPLAIN. MAYBE THEN THE CITY WOULD START TO REALIZE THAT WE ARE IMPORTANT.
WE CANT VOTE OURSELVES A RAISE LIKE THE CITY MANAGER OR ATTORNEY. NOR CAN WE GET A SPECIAL LOW INTEREST HOME LOAN BECAUSE WE CANT MANAGE OUR FINANCES.
STANDY AND WAIT UNTIL E & W GETS THEIR UNION UP AND RUNNING STRONG. THE CITY WILL BE WAITING ON THEM HAND AND FOOT.
ITS PRETTY OBVIOUS THAT OUR REPS DO NOT READ THIS BOARD WHICH SHOWS THEIR CONCERN. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME THE REPS ATTENTED A BRIEFING OR SENT OUT AND EMAIL THAT SAYS ANYTING BESIDES THE CITY ISNT PLAYING FAIR.
HOW ABOUT AN UPDATE THATS INFORMATIVE.

Not everyone may be happy with the PBA but the alternative is an organization that's a great place to watch the game and drink beer or trust the city to look out for your best interests. And I think we all know how that turns out. I know people are frustrated with the contract, I'm one of them, but these things can take time. Tampa didn't get where they are in the first couple years of contracts.

As far as a slow down, sounds good. But I wonder how much worse it can get when there are only a handfull of people in a dayshift briefing. For a city pushing to hit the 100,000 mark it doesn't make sense to me to work with so few officer's on the street, often less than 10 for the entire city. Wonder what the citizens would think if they knew the truth, or if they would even care.

07-31-2007, 01:19 AM
well were basically becoming a department that focuses solely on burglaries. standby for the spike in violent crime and street level drug sales when street crimes comes back to patrol.
at least we will have some senior patrol people working when half of cid comes back when they are made to work nights.
looks like were going to have two NET teams chasing ghosts at night instead of focusing on violent criminals like the ROPES unit use to.
well i hope we round up all the crack heads doing the burglaries so we can focus on something else, like, well, um homeless robberies.

08-01-2007, 02:41 AM
i understand that 50% of the department was not here when we voted the p.b.a. in, also the first and last time i saw this durkin guy. but here's a serious question to think about. we as a department voted the p.b.a. in by a democratic style vote. now, when are we voting for our rep's, i've been asking sinco day one and get the p.b.a.'s generic answer....i'll get back too you. being part of a union before and in union 101.....you vote the union in. then a.s.a.p. there is another demecratic style vote for your rep's. any one here ever seen a ballot? these guy's need to be appointed, not annoited......or the first six guy's who show up at the bar!!!!!! has any one of them ever been ten miles near a binding arbitration action. or do they just want too look and feel important with another beeper, that they usually don't answer? we need a vote NOW and people with experiance running this dog and pony show. VOTE, SLOW DOWN, and stand bye your man or something like that, oh wait stand strong.

It seems like alot of people agree that we can't eat "Stand Strong". We can't take "Stand Strong" to the bank and cash it. "Stand Strong" won't answer calls with us or back us up on the street. Cops are problem solvers. We are not accustomed to waiting for problems to be solved for us. We are men and women of action.

08-01-2007, 11:27 PM
Talk, talk, talk...that's all I ever hear.

08-02-2007, 01:37 AM
I KNOW THAT ONE OF OUR REPS WAS APPOINTED BY KACH BECAUSE THEY ARE FRIENDS. I KNOW HE RARELY ASSISTS IN ANYTHING BUT THIS SHOULDNT BE A SUPRISE TO ANYONE WHO HAS WORKED WITH HIM EITHER ON PATROL OR IN CID. ONE OF THE PREVIOUS REPS HAD A CONFLICT OF INTEREST DUE TO A SIGNIFICANT OTHER BEING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FENCE.

ITS TIME FOR SOME NEW REPS. I AGREE WITH THE PREVIOUS POST THAT WE NEED SOMEONE LEADING US THAT HAS SOME EXPERIENCE IN CONTRACTS.
WHO IS JIM DIAMOND? OH HE SHOWED HIS FACE ONCE DIDNT HE..
THE LAST DIAMOND I KNEW USED THE CITY TOO.....
JUST FYI: THE CITY HAS BASICALLY SLAPPED THE UNION IN THE FACE AND TOLD THEM TO QUIT COMING TO THE TABLE WITH A 25 AND OUT... STANDBY FOR THE NEXT "STAND STRONG" EMAIL.

08-02-2007, 12:47 PM
so let me get this straight....

Reps are appointed not elected?
Is there a term for a rep?
Are there any qualifications that must be met to be a rep?

standing strong and confused!

08-03-2007, 02:52 AM
Holy crap..... You know what we outta do? Let's get rid of that worthless union and go back to the way things were before. I know I liked being treated the same as a guy from Parks and Rec that weed eats the swan cages. Heck, we all know the city will look out for us and has our best interests at heart. I think we should be thankful, we may have to work until we're 62 and what a privilege it is. And I'm tired of this group that's trying to get things for us. Who do they think they are?

In the event the point of the previous paragraph escapes anyone, yes, it is sarcasm. Of course the city's laughing at us, look at the way we're fighting with each other. The union is dealing with a city that's used to having things it's own way and puts little importance on the employee. We're all expendable and replaceable to them. Getting tired of the same d@mn bit$#ing post after post.

08-12-2007, 09:28 AM
Yeah the city is stringing us along and acting like we are a bunch of morons....they have no intention of negotiating with us..........we come come to the table as a poodle in front of Dobermans and Rottweilers...........what do we have to offer as collateral for their inaction???? Impasse?.......YEAH.......EXACTLY..........NOTHING !!!

I recalled an interesting fact the other day....Did you know that if you or say an entire shift or department called in sick it is actually illegal for a supervisor to ask you what type of illness plagues you according to the beautiful HIPPA law? Imagine the anarchy in the city should an entire police force for ONE day fall to illness. Of course we'd all be paid for our shift through the sick leave we have accumulated and never used........Wonder how that would hit city hall....beeeeep....beeeep.......beeeep...... loyal supervisor...10-76......(21-R IP) (24-B IP) (56 IP)......no units 10-8........churp churp churp.....(hear them crickets?) "Lakeland......request PCSO assistance.......... My house, property, and cars are secure...........I'm sorry did you need me for something.....cough....cough....sorry............. ....I've got anal glaucoma.......I don't see my ass coming to work.

Now that bring a new meaning to "STAND STRONG" doesn't it my brothers?

08-15-2007, 10:05 PM
THE ADMINISTRATION WOULD JUST GRAB THE THREE PSA'S ON DUTY AND SEND THEM TO ALL OF THE CALLS......UNARMED.....W/NO BACK-UP :x .

Having been a member of this department for nearly 18 years I have seen the good side and the bad side of this department.

And not being a regular contributor to this forum I thought I'd make a visit after hearing some appalling comments about OUR UNION.

Seeing some of the posts here I am wondering what side are some of you on? Granted our PBA isn't perfect, but I think you people have some views which are totally off base. The PBA is no genie in a bottle in which you uncork it and all that you wish is granted. Get real!

The PBA is working hard to ensure that we all get a fair shake in every aspect of our job. I would have to guess that those of you who make these disparaging comments are 1. Not involved directly by attending meetings, functions, etc and solely rely on rumor and gossip for your opinion. 2. Don't really know the true issues. 3. Don't really know the true character of your reps.

I, for one, can vouch for the reputations of each rep member. I have known them for a long time and have worked with each member in a variety of capacities. I also find it sad that you would air these issues in such a forum. Do you not think that the administration and the rest of the city doesn't hear about this? I can only imagine the people like Delgado and the rest of the bunch sitting around and laughing at how this is being handled by some of the membership. It only fuels the notion that we are not a UNION.

I would submit that those of you who write this crap about OUR UNION should either stop your union membership or step up and do better. I would wager to say that you won't do either because you are just all talk.

Sadly your efforts only hurt the rest of us. If you care to confront me about this face to face I am sure you can figure out who I am....EM @ CIS. I wonder if you'll be so brave instead of hiding behind your keyboard.

Yeah, we know who you are. No one is afraid to confront you, its just that no one likes you. You, with your reputation, shouldn't be vouching for anyone. It just damages their reputation.

08-18-2007, 08:32 PM
Like him or not, reputation or not, he's right.

08-18-2007, 10:53 PM
I HAD THE PLEASURE OF WORKING WITH E.M. FOR SEVERAL YEARS.
I WAS AROUND HIM ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS. I NEVER SAW THIS PERSON CONDUCT HIMSELF IN AN UNPROFESSIONAL MANNER AND BELIEVE ME HE HAD PLENTY OF OPPORTUNITY TO USE THAT AVENUE. E.M. IS A TRUE COPS COP AND WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR ANY OF US AT LPD OR ANY OTHER AGENCY.
IM SURE THE PEOPLE WHO ARE BASHING E.M. NEVER WORKED WITH HIM OR BARELY KNOW HIM.
I DONT AGREE TOTALLY WITH HOW LONG THE UNION NEGOTATIONS ARE TAKING OR WHAT IS BEING NEGOTIATED FOR BUT OUR CONTRACT WITH THE CITY IS IN AN INFANT STAGE AND I KNOW IT TAKES TIME.
FOR THOSE OF YOU COWARDS THAT ARE BASHING PEOPLE, BE IT E.M. OR SOME ONE ELSE, WHY DONT YOU POST YOUR NAME OR BADGE NUMBER.

Initially I thought about not making a response or acknowledgement to AFOR's posting. But I did not want to go without acknowledging you guys.

Thanks for the comments.

You guys now what I'm trying to say here.

08-20-2007, 10:41 PM
I SUPPOSE AFOR EITHER IS RETIRED, ON DAY SHIFT DOING NOTHING OR COMPLAINING BECAUSE HE CANT GET A CIS OR SIS POSITION.
FOR THOSE OF US THAT HAVE MOVED INTO SPECIALTY UNITS OR INVESTIGATIVE UNITS WHICH DOES REQUIRE MORE ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND NOT AN ATTITUDE OF " IM OFF WORK, ILL DEAL WITH IT TOMORROW".
FOR THOSE OF YOU ON PATROL I AM NOT POKING AT YOU. I LIKE PATROL AND WILL SOMEDAY RETURN THERE.. HECK I WISH I HAD THE DAYS OFF PATROL HAS NOW.
GOOD LUCK AFOR..

I have only worked with E.M. here and there but I am familiar with someone who does work with him. This person had a bad stretch and E.M. was one of the VERY few to help. That I won't forget. As far as AFOR, you have some good points but your bitterness is getting out of hand. With all the problems in this department you don't need to be attacking another officer.

AFOR
08-26-2007, 04:38 PM
There is no therapy for what I have. But seriously, I think I should be man enough to admit when I was wrong. We have an entire third floor who can't do that.

08-27-2007, 05:18 AM
bravo afor, the jerk above most likely does not even work here...and your right about floor #3 if you can't walk up there like we all know who, will change your job description.... work on the fisrt floor and have knee problem's, your fired...it's not fair and it's time to get the media involved...it's that seriois. just ask of the poor soul's waiting too be terminated? how quick we forget. it could be anyone. just ask one of them.....stay safe, ''slow down!'' the truth...

08-28-2007, 07:32 PM
i agree that it is media time. if anyone has a connection over there it might be worth passing along some info.
the media is usually receptive to info that shows the P.D. in a negative light. im sure they dont know the real reasons why people are being "let go" or more importantly why the city is violating the law when it comes to the heart and lung bill.
hopefully a class action law suit is coming as soon as these current heart and lung candidates win their battle.
hopefully the PBA will step up and file the suit soon and maybe they will name some thir floor people. they might not like it when their food may be taken off their table.

It would be great if the Ledger would get involved and let the people know what is going on in their agency. Unfortunately, while they never hesitate to take a cheap shot at LPD officers, the staff seems untouchable. Plus the fact that I doubt they have enough room in the paper to honestly report our concerns while still praising the kingdom of Judd.

08-29-2007, 03:56 PM
AFOR you are right on when you mention the praising of Pope Judd.
i never saw in the paper anything about a PCSO narcotics deputy being fired for sleeping with an informant or possibly selling drugs on duty. i also didnt hear anything else about the unfortunate shooting of Matt Williams.
did you hear anything about the BSI female who admitted to sleeping with a co worker on duty then saying it was all a lie just to make her husband mad.
LPD isnt perfect but PCSO isnt without fault.

09-01-2007, 03:40 AM
There are numerous things at LPD that don't get into the paper either. You also need to consider that PCSO has over 1700 employees compared to the 300-500 at LPD, the law of averages works against PCSO. The great thing about PCSO is we hold our people accountable and don't sweep things under the rug. Recall just before Matt was killed a detention chief and captain and several others were fired/arrested for their infractions.

Grady Judd has done more for law enforcement in Polk County than any other administrator I've ever met, in any location. I am proud to be a deputy with PCSO. I have worked for 2 other agencies and have NEVER seen an administrative staff work so hard to support their people when they are right and hold them accountable when they are wrong. Sheriff Judd is doing a damn good job and I will defend him any day of the week for the support he has given me and those I work with. When I hear people on the street (LEO or otherwise) bashing Sheriff Judd, I consistently defend him, so be prepared. Many more share my opinion than you may think.

PCSO is a great place to be as is LPD, it is only what you make of it and how you react/respond to things. Law enforcement isn't about having fun and getting things your way all the time. I hate to say it, but it truly is a service industry.

I think I'll go fire some shots in a bar or dance on the stage while handcuffed to the tune of "Redneck Yacht Club."

09-01-2007, 02:44 PM
To the above post,

I retired from the SO. You must be on the promitonal list for the King Grady show. LPD is a fine agency. Grady wants to take over the entire county. To the fine officers of LPD be careful, rumor has it that you guys are next. PS Grady and the mayor in a TV ad. to stop dui around the holidays ??

No one here is bashing your agency young man. If you and Judd are sleeping together, as you imply, then man up and admit it. But we have enough problems and don't need your input. From your post it sounds like you have a couple of years experience. Get dry behind your ears before you start trying to have conversations with grownups. There is more than enough to clean up at PCSO. But we are not pointing out your faults on your site. So do us a favor and find someplace else to play.

09-02-2007, 04:42 AM
first too the deputy , mind your own business and apply for i.a.sounds like that's where you belong. there is a reporter at the ledger, ''rick rousos,'' he the one to talk too....the administration is scared too death of him and he will listen. i'm certain he would be very interested in the way injured officer's are treated, the heart lung guy's and one officer who's being terminated for the same thing a guy who has some star's on his shoulder's. when is his fitness for duty??????? we also have the alcu and the american's with disabitlities act....where are they. how about keith cate and stacy schibel the ''action investigator's from channel 8. it could be you next, have some chest pain's or fall at training. the time is NOW, stop talking and start walking...those of you left that still can walk. don't forget our brother's in need. together we are strong, picket the police station/doug thomas's house. get the ledger and t.v. involved. stand united and don't forget, ''slow down!!!!!!!!!!!!'' be safe, the truth.

09-04-2007, 12:06 AM
i think the deputies should respond on their own page and not ours.
pope grady did mention the people who were in trouble right before the m. williams shooting. great job.
never heard anything about the drputy who was sleeping with an informant though. that must of slipped under the rug.
took quite a while to admit that one of your own actually shot m. willams several times before he was murdered. good to see you keep those people employed.
anything else deputy dog?
typical 2 year rookie.
he must be up for a promotion or a transfer to homicide.
wait til election time young jedi and you can hold signs then it will happen.

WOW, I have read through this topic. My username should tell you were I work at pcso and the close relationship that district has with LPD. My pcso number is in the 4000 range, I have been here a while, but I am not the poster from above. Most all at PCSO looked up to LPD for years and many went there, but most of you asked for your union, and now have it to deal with. As for your admin, good luck, talk to HCSO about what PBA is doing for them, same deal, nothing. Our two agencies are in close and frequent contact for support and safety and we all enjoy that. Let's not trash that by throwing all the stones, especially in our little glass houses. Other than transporting your warrants, I and most at PCSO have no issues with you guys. As for the Matt Williams remark, very low and cheap shot. I do not know what all happened and I'm not defending, but that is really dirty and old laundry to air. Be safe and remember most of us in green would take one for the blue and even the black and tans.

09-08-2007, 05:32 AM
What're you all thinking? We are all brothters, whether we wear blue or green. When we break lines the bad guys laugh and are one up on all of us. Deputy = Officer and Officer = Deputy to them . They see a car with a lightbar and they think about what they want to do........fight or run. In these days of political correctness, we now, more than ever must stand together. This is BS, arguing on here!!! I am an officer with LPD and am sick at what I see as dissention between my brothers. We can argue who has bigger balls anyday over a beer, but on the street, we're all weaing the one thing the bad guys HATE........a badge and whether it is more oval than star, they don't give a s#*t. Besides we all know that we all at LPD would love to have a decisive, brutally honest, in your face leader like Grady Judd........if you disagree you are too new to know better or you are of "staff rank." GET IT TOGETHER MY BROTHERS QUIT THIS BULLS#*T!

PCSO ISNT TAKING OVER LAKELAND. WE ARE TOO BIG AND THE COUNTY CANT AFFORD TO PROVIDE THE SAME LEVEL OF PROTECTION THAT WE PROVIDE.
THE ONLY GOOD THING THAT WOULD COME WITH PCSO TAKING OVER IS THAT ALL THE ADMIN WOULD BE AXED.
THE NEGATIVE WOULD BE THAT THE ADMIN AT PCSO HATES LPD AND WOULD MAKE SURE WE NEVER GOT PROMOTED, ETC...
THE S.O. IS DEFINETLY A GOOD OL BOY SYSTEM.
AS FOR THE POST THAT STATED WE ARE ALL ON THE SAME TEAM...KEEP LIVING THAT DREAM..WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW PCSO HELP US? HMMMM

You're right, PCSO will never take over Lakeland. One reason is because the City Administration likes having the dept. Giving it over to the County would deplete their power. Of course the idea of the admin being axed does sound good.

is that the same deputy chief who limped up to our next officer to be terminated gave him his 30 day letter and then dragged his foot back to the elevator and presses ''3''. oh by the way it's a fitnesses for duty issue......is he a sworn officer if so when is his next fitness for duty physical? how can that man go home and look himself in the mirror? oh wait when he takes his glasses off he cant see, is that fair?
