View Full Version : Slashing the budget

Who can think of additional ways to slash the budget
1) Correction personnel DO NOT need take home cars. Regardless of rank. Maybe a few, such as the CERT guys who are on call, and others with special duties. But not the run of the mill correction Lt.'s or Capts. That was something Bieluch started

2) Except for select personnel again, Corrections does not need to qualify with firearms. It is a waste of ammo, and holster equipment. If each holster cost us $100.00 and we have hire 100 correction personnel in a year, that is $10,000 dollars wasted. Just qualify certain personnel who do the transporting and hospital security details.

3) Let the Sheriff review which civilian personnel have take home cars and see if that can be restructured. I have heard of many Admin Assistants having take homes that work for key bosses.

4) I know they are considered critical due to votes. But how much does it cost to outfit each of those COP cars. With the lights and decals, fuel and all. Plus not to mention all of the S-4's they are involved in. I'm sure putting them on hold might save a buck or two.

Post your ideas of saving us crucial budget monies.

No Admin Assistants have cars. Correctional personnel must qualify with their weapons (state law).

leave the COP guys alone...if you didn't know they have to pay for the Gas for their cars not the Sheriff's Office. They help us more than they hurt us. But If you want to talk about cars, lets see why at D/4 there's still Chevy Lumina's that have been sitting back there for over a year and haven't moved from that spot. They are supposed to be decoy cars but they haven't moved in over a year. SELL THEM AT THE AUCTION....that money would be for us to buy new cars. For 4 wasted Decoy cars I'll bet we could get at least one brand new crown vic.

I understand were all trying to figure out how to save money. However, the first suggestion was very well thought out. However, under state law corrections must be trained each year with fireamrs training in order to keep their certificates.

As for COP program, I have been informed that they are no longer getting anymore new vehicles and they utilize used uniform shirts and badges. There even merging the some units into one, I believe they call them Rover units. This is all to say funds.

Have a great day and be safe girls and boys

This is only a thought and you can take it for what its worth. Why do we order corrections new IMapalas every year to do transport runs or escorts to the courthouse, these guys dont take these cars home or go call to call with them so why do they need them. Why not save money give them Ford vics which have more then served there purpose on the raod and can still be used for driving from courthouse to jail. They (motorpool) will make the road guys use a car with close to 200,000 miles for a loaner while corrections who just simply drives back and forth gets new vehicles. Lets save them money and buy new Vics for the road and give corrections the hand me downs.

How about we get Pahokee and Belle Glade to pay the agreed upon amount for LEO services? These cities can't even pay the 50% off deal PBSO gave them for their LEOs.

Millions of $$$ wasted....

Lets see Ric without a K put 2 D/S in each city until the bill is paid..

You have no idea what you are speaking of. You have no idea of the corrections compnet. You have no idea of life. You only want to post junk on here. You should be a shamed to call yourself law enforcement officers. I know the true LEOs are shaking their heads in dismay with your comments. You should look into the mirror and see what you look like.

One thing that irks me is having to go to traffic court; when the person is found guilty, they pay court costs and get a withhold. How about this: When someone pleads "Not Guilty" and make a deputy have to appear, if they are found guilty of their infraction, they have to pay an extra $100.00 that goes directly to the Sheriff's Office to cover paying deputies that have to needlessly show up in court. Not only would this make people think trice about wasting a deputy's time and costing the county 3 hours, but it would take the burden off of the county to have to pay this extra money.

If 200 deputies show up to traffic court three times per week and 3/4 of the cases are found guilty, that is $45,000.00 each week. That is money that is being wasted right now, so let's make these people who think they can weasel out of a citation pay for their mistakes... not the judge or magistrate saying, "okay - while I find you really did run the red light, just pay $75 in court costs and you can have a withhold of adjutication."

I would rather them say, "You are found guilty - that will be $75 court costs, $100 deputy appearance cost and we'll withhold the points."
