Going to be retiring soon, I would like to work for a state agency. Any thoughts to guide me in the right direction.

In case you haven't heard, we got screwd on a raise this year because we rely on the legislature to vote on an increase for us.

Regardless, you may not care if you're retired. Some of the things they all share is pay (except FDLE...they get paid more), take-home car, plain-clothed work, no schedule, off-duties, and no overtime. If you live in So. Fla., you'll get a 5K increase for cost of living.

Each agency has different things they investigate.

FDLE is charged with violent crime, child pornography/corruption, abduction, public corruption, etc. They also have the new casinos in Broward County.

ABT is charged with license investigations, minors, prositution, narcotics, gambling, and inspections. We serve our own warrants as well.

DFS is more paperwork review (in my limited knowledge), and daytime hours. Fraud and financial crimes investigations are their main function.

Hey, thanks for the info FDLE is my first choice, but nothing is for sure so I'm looking around, need to do the PAT and interveiws to get the ball rolling. I get less than a year to go from MPD.

No prob. I am nowhere near retirement, and I, like many others, need more cash. MPD is looking, right? How long before a take-home car is issued?

Usually after probation (1 year).
