An off-duty Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputy was critically injured after the motorcycle he was riding was struck by another vehicle on the Florida Turnpike in Osceola County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an FHP trooper spotted a BMW traveling at more than 100 miles-per-hour northbound on the Florida Turnpike around 8:30 a.m. The BMW was traveling in the inside left lane, while a group of five motorcycles was traveling in the right lane at the speed limit.

When the trooper attempted to stop the BMW, the driver changed lanes, clipping the lead motorcycle, FHP Sergeant Jorge Delahoz said.

The driver of the motorcycle, off-duty PBSO deputy David Neil Bradford, was ejected from the motorcycle. He was flown to Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando and is listed in critical condition. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of crash, Delahoz said.

The driver of the BMW, Monica Lynn Cook, of Miami, was charged with driving at an unlawful speed and improperly changing lanes, resulting in a crash with serious injury.

The crash remains under investigation.

I hope FHP plans to arrest the driver of the BMW. Going 104 mph is clearly reckless driving.

FYI. I just got back from the hospital in Orlando. Dave is much better than we first thought. There have been a lot of bad rumors about this so let me set the record straight. He did NOT lose his foot. His spinal cord was NOT severed, it was stretched. It has been re-aligned by one of the best surgeons in Fl. His ear was partially ripped off and has been re-attached. He is by no means out of the woods. He will have a very long rehabilitative process ahead of him. At this point it is not even certain if he will ever walk again, as the swelling is still to great. He may possibly be released from Orlando as soon as next week and brought home for re-hab. There was many of his friends at the hospital all day with his wife Sandy, thanks to all of you!
The Orange County SO and Orange County PBA stepped up and made numerous arrangments for family and friends to stay at local hotels at a MUCH reduced rate. The Osceola County SO also pitched in by escorting several of our members from the county line to the hospital.
FHP sucks. They released the driver with only traffic infractions and allowed her to take her vehicle instead of seizing it as evidence and treating this crash as a fatality. It took a ASA from PB to kick enough butt to get the FHP to come to the hospital and get statements from wittnesses. FHP really dropped the ball on this one. Once again, they suck.

What do bad things seem to always happen to good people. We all feel so helpless at times like this because we wish we could reach out and touch Dave and make it better.

Dave-remember that one of the people in your room with you is the Lord. We all pray for your recovery.

The correct email address for Capt. Bilardello is bilardelloa@pbso.org. I appreciate whoever posted the above information but getting the name correct would be kind of helpful. We should all keep Dave and Sandy in our hearts and prayers.
