Two deputies fired for separate cases

Two Escambia County deputies have been fired and accused of using excessive force in separate cases.

Norman Frye, (former Trooper Randy Frye) 48, and Christian Coad, 29, were both fired Wednesday and could face criminal charges.

Frye is suspected of using a Taser stun gun on a woman while she was handcuffed on Feb. 3, Sheriff Ron McNesby said. Coad was caught on his patrol car's video camera slapping a man on the head while the man was face down on the ground April 5.

Both men were hired in 2004.

"I am very saddened ... that I have to give this information to the community," McNesby said.

Most excessive-use-of-force cases are filed by civilians, McNesby said. But the cases with Frye and Coad were flagged by supervisors.

Coad's attorney, Roy Kinsey, said his client will appeal the firing.

"I told (Coad) I was disappointed that a better look hadn't been taken with this," Kinsey said.

why did you choose to post this on here? I work with both Deputies, both are good cops, real cops, getting shafted by the Sheriff because he is worried about next years election.Sad part, it's all for for some total dirtbags, they will win on appeal, as they should.

They need to get whats coming to them. Good cops don't abuse someone in their custody. I guess if they done this to someone in your family you would still consider them good cops.

good cops? well they were as good as you can get, they did not abuse anyone. The guy coad chased down was a total scumbag who had coke residue all over his hands(most likely ditched it) with previous coke arrests. All Coad did was slap the piece of garbage on the head when he was struggling with him.Frye contact tased some drunken whore who was resisting, yes she was cuffed but so what. They would not do that to my family because my family is not full of losers like the two "victims".

If you are a Trooper, you have NO right to say what a good cop is.Not bashing Troopers but they need to know their place on the LE totem pole.We deal with more real crap in one night then most Troopers deal with in a career.Go write your tickets and do not bash good cops that you do not know. They will get their jobs back, no doubt.

OK boys and girls it's time for the "Paul Harvey" statement. "...and now for the rest of the story...." Non law enforcement people need to understand that "fixating" on the fact that someone is handcuffed is blinding yourself to the FACTS. FACT #1 - a handcuffed person can still react and hurt you seriously! If this is difficult for anyone to understand I'll let you handcuff me and then try and put me in the backseat of a car. Good example, some years ago a "handcuffed female" kicked the front teeth out of an officer who was trying to subdue her...that's right, she was already handcuffed. That officer now wears a complete set of dentures compliments of a "HANDCUFFED FEMALE!" FACT #2 - No where in the SO policy does it state that less than lethal force cannot be used on a combative suspect, male or female. The suspect was IN FACT kicking the two officers and the least injurious method was used (PER POLICY) to end the situation without injury to either the suspect, officers or by-standers. FACT #3 - Ron McNesby KNOWS these facts to be true and undisputed. This action by him is nothing more than an evil man playing politics with another person's life, the lives of his family and friends, which WILL be remembered. FACT #4 - McNesby and Smith rant and rave about following the rules, however neither of them even understand their own policies. They treat the personnel at the SO with idle contempt and boast themselves in the media as shocked and dismayed, even when an officer does it right and follows the rules and regulations to the letter.

It is very obvious that some of those writing in to this forum, as well as other forms of media, have never done this job or they would stop commenting on a single "UNFINISHED" statement like "handcuffed female." Please give it a rest and wait for ALL the facts to come out on this situation as has been suggested previously here.

The men and women of the SO I know to be hard working fair minded souls who try against seemingly insurmountable odds to do a sound professional job day in and day out. Are there those who shouldn't be doing this job? Of course...but I can assure you they are a very small number and the good ones don't want them around either. This profession is like all others: There are those who should be in a different line of work.

Ask the right questions instead of just blindly listening to two idiots who have completely lost touch with reality and don't care in the least what consequences their wrongful actions have on a person or his family.

Ask how many sustained complaints this officer has had filed on him in the three years he's been at the SO. Ask how many "uses of force" he's had in the three years at the SO. Ask why the situation with the handcuffed female was allowed to get out of control in the first place requiring the backup assistant of another officer. Ask how a supervisor who didn't even "see" the incident can decide something was done improperly, and what motive they may have for making a statement about something he didn't actually see. Ask that, so called supervisor explain the "force continuum scale" that dictate the officers actions in the force matrix. Have that same supervisor define each of the levels of the force continuum scale.

My point is there is far more to this situation than has been released or discussed. Before we are guilty of doing the same thing that McNesby and Smith do, jump to conclusions, as well as decide issues based on personality not whats right or wrong. Instead, I ask only that we wait for all the facts and information to be presented. Give those who have no voice under this administration a strong voice and at the very least the benefit of a fair hearing before we try and destroy them. It was said elsewhere in this blog just because this bunch says someone has done something wrong doesn't make it so. Lets support our personnel at the SO and give them something they can't get there...FAIR TREATMENT.

I believe that having seen and reviewed the facts of this case truth will come out at the hearing for this officer. I truly believe that Deputy Frye will be fully exonerated at that time. McNesby and Smith will look, as they should, incompetent. And, of course, McNesby can once more "look surprised" for the cameras.

Your 15 minutes are up McNesby now get off the stage. I'm truly ashamed of you, and embarrassed by the very sight of you. I, as well as my family and friends will be seeing and discussing you regularly in 2008!!!

How did he get the deputy's job? He was fired from FHP for destroying an individual's credit using information obtained illegally from a bank where his wife worked. Evidently, his wife stupidly gave him her secret password to get into the individual's information. Can't remember exactly if he was fired or, as in a lot of cases, he was told to resign or be fired and arrested.

I will tell you why. Because Frye thinks he can run from his past because he has a gun and a badge. Well guess what Frye, you can’t. It eventually catches up to you. You screwed over so many people in your past it’s finally catching up to you. Did you really think moving back to your home town would help you hide??? Not!!! News flash idiot. There is this thing called social media and the internet. You can run but you can’t hide. Karma will get you eventually.
