Is it true that SM has been taking numerous vacations and not been charged with the time?

NO! I'm not a cheese eater, but if I take time it's reflected on my check ,and it seems payroll can pick and choose who gets charged or not. Just look around and see who takes excessive amounts of time off esp vacation.
